Millersville resident Cuther Watts II, 38, now faces a laundry list of charges after being busted for speeding, theft, DUI, and unauthorized use of a rental car on Wednesday, Feb. 19, according to the Stafford County Sheriff's Office.
The chase kicked off just before midnight when a deputy spotted Watts’ Toyota making a shaky U-turn from the right lane of Richmond Highway—clipping a curb right in front of Jay’s Sports Lounge.
The deputy then lit up her emergency lights to conduct a traffic stop, but Watts had other ideas.
He hit the gas, darting through the Motel 6 parking lot and onto Town Center Boulevard before zipping back onto Richmond Highway.
The high-speed pursuit continued onto Garrisonville Road, with Watts pushing speeds over 90 mph and veering into oncoming traffic.
Watts finally pulled over on Chadwick Drive, where deputies conducted a high-risk stop and took him into custody.
Deputies say Watts smelled of alcohol and had bloodshot, glassy eyes. When pressed, he admitted to drinking before getting behind the wheel and he was found in possession of two Bootlegger bottles.
Then things got worse for Watts.
A second deputy, recognizing Watts from a recent visit to Wawa, checked the store’s location on Garrisonville Road and learned that Watts had allegedly stolen a Bootlegger bottle just 15 minutes before the chase.
Then things got even worse for Watts.
A third investigator determined that the Toyota Watts was driving was a rental—one the renter claimed Watts had no permission to use.
He would make contact with the renter who advised she did not know Watts or how he came to obtain her rental vehicle considering she was the only one who was supposed to be operating it.
Watts was also discovered to have no driver’s license.
Now, Watts is facing serious charges that include:
- Felony eluding;
- DUI with a blood alcohol content between .15 and .20 percent;
- Unauthorized use of a vehicle;
- Larceny;
- Driving without a license;
- Reckless driving;
- Failure to maintain control of a vehicle.
He’s being held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
